The architectural project gives a new use to an existing building in the heart of the city of Argostoli, on the island of Kefalonia. The former building, designed to house retail businesses and offices, has a façade designed according to the architectural restrictions that are in place. The goal is to redesign this building into a hotel.
The new layout was strongly influenced by the existing windows and balconies, because it was requested to keep the façade intact. Finally, the building will host 15 apartments of different sizes, along with retail on the ground floor.
The interior design study for the hotel strives to find and render the essence of the island’s vernacular architecture and the general Ionian islands aesthetic. Elements such as the arc, the symmetry of the windows and common materials and colors, are all included in the design of the hotel, but reinterpreted in a different, more contemporary form.
